Moth Pest Control Services

THERE ARE OVER 2,400 DIFFERENT SPECIES OF MOTH IN THE UK AND THEY DON’T POSE ANY PARTICULAR HEALTH RISK. WHEN THEY GET INTO YOUR CLOTHES, HOWEVER, THEY CAN BE A DIFFICULT PEST TO COPE WITH. WE OPERATE ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST OF ENGLAND, DELIVERING THE PEST CONTROL MEASURES YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS NEEDS RIGHT NOW.

While they don’t pose any serious health risks, moths can do serious damage to things in your house such as textiles. Most of the time, the presence of a moth in your home can simply be a little irritating. They tend to gravitate towards lights and the flapping of their wings around your fittings is annoying, to say the least.

It’s moth larvae that generally cause the big damage to items like clothing – the adult moths themselves aren’t eating your favourite jumper or carefully stored wedding dress. Most moths don’t cause any problem at all but there are four species that are a particular problem: The brown house moth, the case-bearing clothes moth, the common clothes moth and the white-shouldered house moth.

SPOTTING A MOTH INFESTATION

While you’ll easily spot a moth flying around the home, the signs of an infestation are usually found on your clothes and a bit more difficult to diagnose. For example, the common clothes moth will leave irregular little holes in your favourite garments. If your clothes have regular shaped holes, this could be a sign of the case-bearing clothes moth doing its work. The brown house mouth, on the other hand, has a particular liking for leather and other animal products.

Obviously, if you aren’t looking out for these things they can be difficult to find in the first place. You may, however, notice larvae in areas like the carpet or adult moths that are not flitting around as usual but crawling along the wall or floor.

DEALING WITH A MOTH INFESTATION

There’s a lot you can do to reduce moths getting into your home or business in the first place. Because they are attracted by light, they can quickly gravitate towards your home in summer so keeping windows and doors closed as much as possible at night certainly helps. Other things you can do include cleaning the carpets and making sure your clothes are washed regularly to get rid of any larvae.

If you’re beginning to notice damage to your clothing or areas like the carpets, then it’s about time to call out the professionals. At All-Clear Pest Control we operate across the southwest.
